For classroom music teachers
PianoForte in the Music Classroom
A solfa-based method, based in Kodály and Orff. The Preschool collection and Levels One and Two are ready to use with whole classes: sung, played and taught together on keyboards, tuned percussion and ukuleles.

Why it works in the classroom
Based in Kodály and Orff
As in Kodály teaching, children build musicianship through singing, solfa and hand signs. As in Orff teaching, they learn through chants, rhythm and play, so they experience the music before they read it.
It starts where children start
PianoForte begins with Sol and Mi, the same starting point as Kodály-based classroom curricula, so it can begin in kindergarten. New notes are added one at a time, each building on the last.
Singing first, then playing
Every new note is sung, shown with hand signs and heard before it is played. That makes the method ideal for a whole class singing together, with or without instruments.
It isn’t only for piano
Because solfa is about the sound rather than the instrument, the same lessons work on keyboards, tuned percussion and ukuleles. The open strings of a ukulele are Sol, Do, Mi and La, so a class can play the first melodies using only open strings.
Ready for a whole class
Solfa ladder posters, flashcards, games and worksheets are all printable and ready to use.
