Piano Lesson in Progress - (Kodaly Reading). ‘Daydream’ from ‘Beyond Level 3’

This is a portion of a real piano lesson.

It's so useful to watch a real lesson happening with a real student. In particular, this video is a wonderful way to observe the Kodaly method applied specifically to learning the piano with a student who is a late beginner.

This student began his learning with the PianoForte Method and has worked through Levels 1 - 3 and is working through the Major Scales book. He is now in the level called Beyond Level 3 (found in the membership). He has played the piece Brightness from this level and is now working on this piece Daydream.

This student began his music journey with me as a preschooler in a Kodaly/Orff class I taught. He started private piano lessons when he was four years old. For the first three years of lessons he shared a 40 minute lesson with a sibling (also at the same level). This year he has had regular 30 minute one-to-one lessons once a week. He practices a few minutes every morning before school. He has performed in a lot of recitals, in some playing duets with me and recently performing pieces from PianoForte Level 3 solo.

I will continue to assign lots of pieces at this Late Beginner / Grade 1 level for the next year and we will work towards completing his major scales.
