I am the kind of piano teacher that uses a lot of physical movement in lessons. I have students stand, wave their arms, bend over, flop, sway, drag, arch…..

It’s endless, because I know that developing beautiful technique goes far beyond moving fingers. The piano is a giant instrument and our entire body has to get involved in order for us to create the sounds we want to hear.

So teaching online lessons has been a challenge for me. The usual tactile way of teaching is simply not possible. But technique cannot be ignored for the weeks or months that we might have to have lessons this way. I’m having to be inventive and I found a couple of tricks that are actually really helping…

I hope you find these tricks helpful for your lessons and please take a moment to visit the Teaching Resources Page for links to my books and Free teaching downloads.
