A New Way to Teach—Without Starting Over

Introducing the PianoForte Method—a flexible approach designed to integrate seamlessly into your existing teaching style.

Why You Don’t Have to Overhaul Your Teaching to Try Something New

When it comes to piano methods, it can often feel like an all-or-nothing decision. Many teachers think they have to completely switch over to something new—or not use it at all.

It’s understandable. Between lesson planning, setting student goals, and organising recitals, our schedules are packed. Anything that feels like a major overhaul quickly falls to the bottom of the list.

So we tell ourselves: I’ll look into it later. Maybe over the summer.

But here’s the truth:

You don’t have to abandon what already works.

The PianoForte Method was designed to support your current teaching—not replace it.

A Method That Fits Inside What You Already Do

I developed the PianoForte Method while still using traditional method books. It was born from a need I kept seeing in my students’ musical growth:

  • They could memorise pieces, but didn’t understand how the music was built.

  • They could play, but not hear the music in their minds first.

  • They could follow notes, but not read fluently or musically.

One day, I created a simple song called Flying Birds and tried it with a brand new student. It was sweet, musical, effortless. When the student left, I stood there thinking:

“What just happened? A first lesson has never felt like that.”

At the time, I had over 60 students. I couldn’t turn everything upside down—but I did want every student to experience that same musical freedom.

So I started small: creating one resource at a time, gently supplementing lessons. And each one brought the same spark. Students were learning faster, deeper, and with more joy.

That’s how the PianoForte method grew. Today it stands as a complete method—but just like I eased it into my own studio, you can too.

Why Small Changes Can Bring Big Results

You don’t need to switch methods or redo your entire curriculum. The PianoForte method is designed to slip seamlessly into what you’re already doing—and help you elevate it.

It helps your students:

🎵 Feel rhythm in their bodies

🎵 Hear music in their minds before playing

🎵 Connect solfa and singing to what they see on the page

🎵 Build confident, fluent reading skills—right from the start

Most of all, it brings musicianship into the centre of every lesson—without overloading your prep or disrupting your teaching flow.
