Have a look inside PianoForte Level 3

PianoForte Level 3 progresses naturally and easily from Level 2. In Level 2, students were introduced to the stave and the basics of how music notation works. In this level they begin to develop real reading skills.

This is supported with strong skills by developing further their ‘inner’ understanding of musical sounds and the relationships between pitches.

Students are introduced to the concept of playing ‘Hands Together’ - which is presented as playing in ‘two voices’. Each voice is singable and they begin to understand how piano repertoire functions.

The Grand Stave is now presented with Landmark Notes ‘A’. This allows students to use the music alphabet to find note names on the lines and spaces and orientate notes on the stave with locations on the keyboard. This is a strong method for strengthening reading skills

This level builds on a “music first” approach, introducing new concepts through engaging chants and other musical activities. Each lesson is designed to help students internalise musical ideas in a practical, experiential way, ensuring they understand not just the theory, but how it sounds and feels.

Level 3 continues the structured approach of the first two levels, with each piece presented in both Solfa and traditional Notation. At this stage, the musical elements become more challenging, fostering deeper aural awareness. A key focus of this level is developing the ability to hear and interpret two independent voices, enabling students to confidently play with both hands while singing the melodic lines in both the right and left hands.
